About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Facilities Manager to take ownership of the site and ensure our premises are safe, secure, and well-maintained. This role is essential to keeping our manufacturing environment running smoothly by managing both day-to-day upkeep and long-term site improvements.
The Facilities Manager will be responsible for site security, daily checks (lights, windows, doors, heating), and acting as a fire marshal. They will carry out general maintenance and handyman tasks such as painting and small repairs, while also coordinating with external contractors for services such as cleaning, grounds maintenance, plumbing, and electrical work.
This is a practical role that combines responsibility for site standards with hands-on problem solving, ensuring the site reflects the professionalism of the business and remains safe and secure for all employees.
Key Responsibilities
Site Security & Safety
* Ensure the site is opened/locked securely, with lights, windows, and heating systems checked daily.
* Act as Fire Marshal, ensuring fire safety compliance and conducting regular fire checks.
* Carry out daily site audits to identify and resolve risks, hazards, or maintenance issues working with the maintenance manager and HSE Manager.
Facilities & Maintenance
* Undertake general handyman duties including painting, basic repairs, and upkeep of communal areas.
* Ensure external areas (car parks, gates, grounds) are maintained to a high standard.
* Manage and resolve issues with site infrastructure such as gates, plumbing, heating, and electrical fixtures (liaising with contractors where required).
Contractor & Services Management
* Coordinate external contractors for services including cleaning, sanitary bins, water dispensers, and grounds maintenance.
* Monitor contractor performance and ensure works are delivered safely, on time and to agreed standards.
* Identify cost-saving opportunities by carrying out tasks in-house where appropriate.
Site Standards & Continuous Improvement
* Develop and maintain a schedule of site inspections, ensuring the workplace is tidy, safe, and compliant.
* Proactively identify opportunities to improve site condition, presentation, and energy efficiency.
* Support ad hoc projects relating to site development and employee facilities.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
* Previous experience in a facilities, site, or building management role (manufacturing environment desirable).
* Hands-on maintenance skills and a willingness to carry out practical repairs.
* Strong awareness of site safety and security requirements.
* Organised and proactive, with the ability to prioritise tasks and respond to urgent issues.
* Good communication skills, able to liaise confidently with contractors and staff.
* Fire marshal trained (or willingness to obtain certification).
Desirable:
* Basic knowledge of building services such as plumbing, heating, and electrics.
* Experience managing contractors and service providers.
* Familiarity with health & safety practices in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
