Role: Accommodation Support Officer
Salary: £13.96
Location: Doncaster
Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30-5pm
Contract: Temporary
Job Purpose:
To find suitable interim accommodation for customers in relief duty to meet the needs of the household. To place the customer into interim accommodation and to provide support to help them move into independent living.
Responsibilities:
* Ensure all Temporary Accommodation is fully equipped, clean, and in good repair.
* Find suitable alternative Temporary Accommodation when current stock cannot meet needs.
* Conduct sign-up procedures, including licensing and Housing Benefit applications.
* Inform customers of their rights and responsibilities, resolve tenancy issues, and enforce occupancy agreements when needed.
* Coordinate with Legal Services for enforcement actions and court cases.
* Update internal systems regarding accommodation placements and moves.
* Support customers in moving to settled accommodation promptly, including private, supported, and social housing.
* Maximize rental income through rent arrears recovery, including contact and home visits.
* Operate procedures related to occupancy, arrears, and eviction.
* Ensure compliance with HHSRS inspections for private rented accommodation.
* Manage temporary accommodation within homelessness legislation frameworks.
* Work with partners to support rough sleepers into independent living.
* Provide specialist advice for customers fleeing or experiencing domestic abuse.
* Manage customer expectations realistically regarding sustainable housing solutions.
* Identify vulnerable persons and safeguard children and adults, referring as appropriate.
* Assist clients with the Council’s Lettings Policy and bidding process.
* Update inventories and address missing or damaged items.
* Contribute to targets of the Home Options Service.
* Communicate progress and outcomes to complainants and stakeholders, especially regarding antisocial behavior or tenancy breaches.
* Demonstrate client values and behaviors in practice.
* Work flexibly, undertaking additional duties as appropriate.
* Prioritize safeguarding, reporting concerns through proper channels.
* Complete mandatory training and participate in out-of-hours on-call rota.
Person Specification:
Essential:
* Knowledge of Parts 6 and 7 of the Housing Act and experience with homeless legislation, housing law, policies, and practices.
* Understanding of Equality, Diversity, health and safety, and value for money.
* Awareness of legislative requirements affecting private housing and local/national housing agendas.
* Experience working with agencies such as Social Services, Police, and elected members.
* Experience in busy environments, including home visits.
* Knowledge of tenancy enforcement policies and income management principles.
* Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
* Willingness to work out of hours and from other offices if required.
