A vacancy has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist with HCPC registration to join the Biochemistry department at York Hospital. Applicants who have successfully completed an IBMS Specialist Portfolio will be employed on the appropriate AfC Band 6 rate if successful.
We will also consider a trainee Biomedical Scientist who has an IBMS accredited degree or equivalent (or will obtain within 6 months) and has started their IBMS registration portfolio and are within a year of completion. As a training position, Annex 21 of Band 5 will apply to the role banding and pay. Full details can be found on the NHS Employers website
The successful candidate will be required to participate in the 24/7 shift system once they have completed their training.
In addition, as an IBMS approved training laboratory we encourage and support all Band 5 staff to obtain the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Biomedical Science.
Main duties of the job
1. To carry out the analysis of patient samples providing a range of diagnostic methods
2. To ensure the quality and timeliness of results by use of internal quality controls (IQC) and external quality assessment samples (EQA) according to departmental SOPs and departmental Quality Assurance Policy.
3. To ensure that specialist equipment within the area of work is functioning efficiently through good housekeeping, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
4. To perform technical validation of patient results and provide further investigations where needed.
5. To communicate effectively with clinicians, nurses and other service users regarding patient results and service updates.
6. To undertake shift work including evening, weekend and night work.
