We are now seeking a Director of Land Transport to provide strategic, political, and operational leadership across road transport, railways, and warehousing, distribution and logistics.

About The Role

As Director of Land Transport, you will lead the development and delivery of the ITF's global agenda in land transport, building industrial and political power across key sectors. Reporting to the General Secretary, you will play a central role in shaping campaigns, influencing policy, and strengthening unions' capacity to win improvements for workers.

You will provide leadership across complex global programmes, working closely with elected officers, affiliates, regional teams, and external allies. The role combines high-level political judgement with operational oversight, ensuring that strategies, budgets, and projects remain effective, financially viable, and aligned with ITF Congress decisions and values.

Key Responsibilities Include

Designing and driving innovative global campaigns targeting multinational companies, governments, investors, and other powerholders
Influencing international and regional policy to advance labour rights and global standards for land transport workers
Providing strategic leadership to the Land Transport team, including responsibility for organisational planning, budgets, and performance
Ensuring effective governance of the Road Transport Section, Railway Workers Section, and Warehousing, Distribution and Logistics programme
Advising the General Secretary, elected officers, and affiliates on political, industrial, and regulatory developments
Managing senior staff and coordinating closely with ITF regional teams
Ensuring robust project governance, financial management, and donor compliance where applicable

About You

You will bring substantial senior leadership experience within trade unions, social movements, or closely aligned organisations, alongside a strong understanding of global land transport issues and labour rights. You will be politically astute, comfortable operating in complex international environments, and committed to building worker power through organising and collective action.

You Will Also Demonstrate

A strong track record of leading strategic campaigns and organisational change
Experience managing senior teams and complex, cross-regional programmes
Excellent communication skills, including high-level advocacy, influencing, and report writing
The ability to build and sustain relationships across diverse stakeholders and jurisdictions
A leadership style that balances empowerment, support, and accountability
Fluency in English, with willingness to travel internationally and work flexibly

Additional languages and international trade union or NGO experience are an advantage.

Why join the ITF?

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of land transport work globally, leading impactful campaigns and supporting unions to win real change for workers. You'll work in a dynamic, values-driven organisation committed to equality, solidarity, and internationalism.
