To deputise for the plastic surgery and laser centre when the Manager is absent. Driving forward evidence based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within the clinical area.
The post holder is also expected to deliver direct patient care whilst, co-coordinating and overseeing nursing practice
To take the lead role for the plastic surgery trauma service working with the nurse manager, Service Manager and Clinical lead to ensure a smooth patient journey.
Main duties of the job
Be responsible for, and participate in, all clinical activity within the unit, including working in theatre, dressings, laser, hand trauma and general plastics clinics and pre and post-operative care of patients.
Taking a lead in delivering the trauma and complex dressing service, this includes developing and teaching the application of VAC therapy to junior staff
Participate in the nurse lead laser service and photodynamic therapy clinics
Take responsibility for the smooth operational running of the department in the absence of the manager, supervising nursing and clerical staff. Ensure correct staffing levels and skill mix.
Set standards, objectives and priorities within each span of duty.
Be conversant with the Hospital and Department’s clinical guidelines, policies and SOPs, and act accordingly.
Give utmost regard to psychological care of patients, their dignity, and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Act as patient advocate, intervening on the patient’s behalf as necessary
Be accountable for personal practice, critically evaluating own performance ensuring the use of reflective practice to promote a high standard of care.
Provide feedback to all staff from any study sessions attended.
Demonstrate a good working relationship with the Multi-Disciplinary team, maintaining effective lines of communication

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. RGN with evidence of continued personal development
2. Teaching or mentorship qualification
Desirable criteria
3. Degree in nursing or relevant qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
4. Demonstrate expert nursing skills with previous experience in leadership
5. Experience of skin grafts and complex dressings including VAC therapy
Desirable criteria
6. Band 6 experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
7. Understanding of laser safety and laser tissue interactions
8. Experience of formal and informal teaching
Desirable criteria
9. Presentation and audit skills
