An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Designer to join their world-class engineering team — contributing to the development of bespoke motion control and simulation systems used across aerospace, automotive, defence, and industrial applications worldwide.
This is a hands-on, technically challenging, and deeply rewarding design role. You’ll create complete manufacturing packages for complex mechanical ‘System Elements’—including General Assembly drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, Bills of Materials (BoMs), and procurement data.
Your designs will form the core of high-performance systems—featuring actuators, solenoid control manifolds, cardan bearings, and load cells—used in some of the most demanding test and simulation environments on the planet.
Responsibilities:
* Design and develop precision mechanical assemblies and system elements, adapting proven concepts for new applications
* Produce detailed manufacturing documentation in line with BS 8888 and GD&T standards
* Ensure all designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards, including UKCA/CE compliance
* Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles to maximise quality, serviceability, and repeatability
* Lead design reviews, manage deliverables, and resolve technical queries across engineering, supply chain, and production
* Support testing and validation activities, ensuring your designs perform flawlessly under real-world conditions
* Mentor junior engineers, share expertise, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Experience Required:
* HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience – typically 5+ years)
* Proven experience in hydraulic/pneumatic system design, precision mechanisms, or heavy machinery
* Strong 3D CAD (SolidWorks) skills and familiarity with 2D tools (e.g., DraftSight)
* Thorough understanding of GD&T, Limits and Fits, and engineering documentation standards
* Practical knowledge of welded structures, pipework, and machined assemblies
* Competence in stress analysis (FEA), material selection, and tolerance analysis
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with experience using MRP systems and Microsoft Office tools
* Flexibility to travel internationally as required
