Pharmacy Messenger
Responsibilities
* Collect prescriptions from wards and deliver medication, including Controlled Drugs, according to pre‑determined schedule and as required.
* Ensure all medicines are delivered at the end of the day.
* Collect pharmacy boxes from wards and departments, return them to pharmacy and prepare them for other staff in accordance with departmental standards.
* Assist other staff with receipt of goods, sign for them (other than controlled drugs which must be presented to a pharmacist or registered technician for checking and signing) and correctly locate them within stores, in accordance with departmental standards.
* Assemble bulk fluids from picking lists and distribute them to the designated locations (wards/departments) around the hospital.
* Assist other staff with redistribution of stocks within pharmacy.
* Remove and dispose of departmental refuse as required, in accordance with Trust standards.
* Prepare products in a form suitable for distribution to wards and departments, in accordance with departmental procedures.
* Maintain the stores and ward stock distribution area in a clean and tidy condition, ensuring that gangways and fire escapes are not blocked, thereby eliminating avoidable Health and Safety risks.
* Attend departmental meetings as and when required.
* Undertake such other reasonable duties as may be necessary to ensure the smooth running of the pharmacy service as determined by senior staff.
* Dispose of packaging to an appropriate place as required by pharmacy and Trust waste‑management policies.
* Co‑operate with other members of pharmacy staff as necessary, to facilitate the smooth running of the department.
* Participate in rotational work schedules, including Saturday and Sunday working.
* Complete any training in a timely manner.
Employment Details
Pharmacy Messenger – 15 hours per week (Saturday & Sunday 9am to 5pm). PLEASE NOTE: finish times may vary and can exceed the advertised core hours. Permanent Salary: £24,465 per annum pro rata. Closing Date: 16th November 2025. Interview Date: 25th November 2025. Shift pattern available: Saturday & Sunday 9am to 5pm. Opportunity to join NHSP (Bank) and provide cover for annual leave/sickness in addition to core hours.
