Clinical Nurse Specialist – Adult Day Programme.
This is a unique opportunity for a nurse to further their practice and experience within a specialist setting, working within our Day Programme Service.
We are looking for a motivated, empathic, skilled and dedicated individual who can work autonomously as well as part of the wider team. Excellent communication skills in all domains are a must, with an ability to work flexibly and dynamically within the various teams in the service as needed. You will be well supported by a friendly, skilled MDT and receive regular line management and good clinical supervision in various forms.
Responsibilities
* Provide support to clients diagnosed with Eating Disorders via meal support, supervision, key work.
* Develop and facilitate specialist therapeutic groups as part of the programme.
* Ensure patient safety and care is maintained at a high standard.
* Develop specialist risk assessment and care planning skills in a community day programme setting.
* Provide supervision to junior staff and students.
* Complete audits.
* Deputise for day programme manager if required.
* Ensure nursing practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Mental Health Legislation, respecting differences in gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, culture and disability.
* Plan care within the framework of CPA and support band 5 nursing staff to ensure relevant documentation.
* Communicate with families and carers to support patient care.
* Act as group facilitator/co‑facilitator, supervise meals in dining room, and run inpatient and day patient groups.
* Maintain patient observations, accurately record information and report concerns, including ECGs and venepuncture practices.
* Insert nasogastric tubes and administer prescribed diet according to policy and protocol.
* Support patients to eat in the dining room and role‑model supportive interventions.
* Promote and safeguard the interests and well‑being of patients, visitors and colleagues.
* Escort patients when leaving the ward where required.
* Participate in social, occupational and psychological activities, maximizing therapeutic opportunities.
* Ensure medications are administered per medication chart and participate in safe medication storage, stock rotation and pharmacy audits.
* Engage in rotational duties and work in alternative care settings as required.
* Deputise and provide senior nurse cover as part of the management team.
* Assist in establishing an efficient environment, using staff, supplies and services effectively.
* Utilise available resources to maximise benefit of the service.
* Follow Trust policies and procedures and report maintenance requirements.
* Investigate complaints, undertake disciplinary investigations, and handle staff performance data.
* Lead or assist in recruitment and selection of new staff.
* Deliver evidence‑based service to inpatients within available resources.
* Organise care across the service within resource limits.
* Build therapeutic relationships with patients in crisis, using excellent communication skills.
* Acquaint ward manager and matron with professional concerns and promote practice.
* Maintain confidentiality of patient records in line with Data Protection Act.
* Keep ongoing records of clinical activities using trust approved mediums.
* Undertake audits to develop nursing practice and participate in clinical research directed by the Clinical Governance Team.
* Keep abreast of best practice in eating disorders and share within teams.
* Contribute to setting nursing care standards for the inpatient service and develop care pathways.
* Engage in training activities, conferences, workshops, and reading journals to keep up to date.
* Engage in regular clinical supervision of own work and identify professional development needs.
* Maintain up‑to‑date NMC registration.
* Train students on placement and act as a mentor and student link for local education providers.
