Pastoral Assistant Hackney Primary School Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Full-time Start Date: Immediate Contract: Ongoing until July 2026 A one-form-entry primary school in Hackney is seeking an experienced compassionate and highly organised Pastoral Assistant to join their school on a short-term contract basis until January 2026. The Role In this role you will be supporting the emotional, social, and behavioural wellbeing of pupils, working closely with staff, families, and external agencies to ensure every child feels safe, supported, and able to thrive. Key Responsibilities: Provide day-to-day pastoral support for pupils, offering guidance, early intervention, and targeted wellbeing support. Work with the Senior Leadership Team and Safeguarding Lead to promote a safe, nurturing school environment. Assist with safeguarding procedures, maintaining accurate records and responding appropriately to concerns (DSL qualification desirable). Build positive relationships with pupils and families to support engagement, attendance, and behaviour. Support behaviour management strategies and contribute to individual support plans. Liaise with teachers, support staff, and external services to ensure coordinated pastoral care. Person Specification: Preferably DSL-qualified (or willing to undertake training). Strong communication, empathy, and relationship-building skills. Experience supporting children’s wellbeing in a school or similar setting. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
