The University of Hull is the fourteenth oldest university in England; as an internationally engaged, civic institution this strong history is paired with a vibrant and modern outlook. Our colleagues, students and partners have developed a renewed, ambitious and distinctive vision –to shape a fairer, brighter, carbon-neutral future for all.
Our largest faculty (the Faculty of Health Sciences) aims to create a warm welcome to all those who study and work within our academic community. The atmosphere is collegial, supportive and committed to high academic standards. We enjoy a strong and rich relationship with our NHS and other health and social care provider partners founded on the premise that our students are their future healthcare workforce and as such are a vital and precious resource for society. On qualifying, many of our students move directly into employment with our partners and many senior roles in these organisations are filled by former students of the University of Hull.
The (joint) Schools of Nursing & Midwifery and Paramedical, Perioperative and Advanced Practice delivers undergraduate, degree apprenticeships and postgraduate courses in Adult, Children’s, Learning Disability and Mental Health Nursing, in Midwifery and Community Specialist Public Health Nursing and in the Allied Health Professions and Advanced Practice. The University is committed to social justice and widening participation in higher education and this means we place a strong emphasis on access to professional education, offering flexible routes into our programmes. We attract students from across the UK and internationally and work alongside our regional schools, partner colleges and health and social care provider organisations and NHS England to promote nursing and midwifery careers.
The University has been awarded £11m from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to establish a world-leading centre to carry out essential research into addiction and mental health. Our research informs how services are delivered and improves the provision of, and access to essential services in the community. Research staff within our Schools of Nursing and Midwifery and Paramedical, Peri-operative and Advanced Practice work together to undertake research which impacts and meets the needs of our communities .
