We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant – Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

Education Assistant - Special Needs are responsible for assisting teachers with preparing resources and programs that meet the learning needs of students with disabilities and to encourage these students to reach their individual goals. They should also be able to provide effective feedback when required on education and therapy programs besides actively participating in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of student’s individual goals. As part of the role, you will ideally be required to work autonomously and with your class team assisting with the general health and wellbeing of students.

Suitable applicants will ideally work with limited supervision or autonomously and will ideally meet the requirements of a level 3 Education Assistant Special Needs. Applicants will ideally have skills in working with students using: Positive Behaviour Support strategies, Applied Behaviour Analysis, and Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN). Suitable applicants should possess a deep commitment to developing positive and productive relationships, embedding a proactive and respectful approach. Suitable applicants will ideally have a strong knowledge of a range of evidence-based techniques for learning and behaviour management and have experience working with students with special needs. Applicants will ideally support students at their work placement, in the community on leisure, recreation programs and the classroom. A displayed skill in the use of information technology (IT) is highly desirable.

As an Education Assistant at Armadale ESC, you will ideally have the knowledge of effective strategies to support students, combined with the ability to be highly organised and use initiative and to implement and evaluate programs for secondary students, with an intellectual disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, sensory impairments, physical disabilities, or severe mental health disorders in years 7 through to 12. Armadale ESC uses person centred planning approaches to develop the students Individualised Education Plans. The Education Assistant should display a willingness to support the development and implementation of student plans. These plans include curriculum differentiation, social competency, health care, self-management, and mental health.
