We are a leading children’s services charity delivering Fostering, Education, Residential and Family services, caring for over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults each year. Where and when
Southampton Family Centre, a 5-flat facility plus a separate bungalow to accommodate additional families. The centre supports families referred due to concerns around child safety, throughout a 12-week assessment stay with 24/7 monitoring to encourage sustainable positive parenting changes.
Responsibilities
* Assessing and observing: lead parenting assessments through formal and informal observations of residents with their child to deliver a high-quality service.
* Safeguarding: manage safeguarding issues in line with Fair Ways policies to keep children, families and vulnerable adults safe during the assessment period.
* Supervision and development: line manage a small number of direct reports, provide reflective supervision, guidance, and monitor training and development per professional plans.
* Communication: attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings, court hearings, and other forums to represent the Residential Family Centre and support assessors.
* Relationship building: maintain safe supervision levels and respectful relationships with parents and children through effective support and guidance.
* Reporting: oversee the assessment process for the full 12 weeks, write parenting assessment reports for courts, and maintain communication with outside agencies regarding parenting capacity.
* Trauma-informed practice: model trauma-informed responses and use therapeutic and, where applicable, physical interventions to support families during crises and understand parents’ early life experiences.
* Initiatives: support management to develop community-based assessment and outreach packages for family transitions into the community.
* Development: manage personal and professional development through self-assessment, supervision and training.
Requirements
* Minimum qualification: degree-level qualification as a registered social worker.
* Knowledge of legislation relating to Child Protection, looked after children, Public Law Outline, Care proceedings, and safeguarding adults.
* Experience in leading a team and improving service delivery; experience in writing robust parenting assessments and oversight for court proceedings.
Role specifics
The successful candidate will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. A full driving licence and access to a car are required. An enhanced DBS disclosure is required and cost covered by Fair Ways. Visa sponsorship is not available; evidence of right to work in the UK is required.
