Pharmacy Assistant, Stores and Distribution
Job Summary
This post assists in the day-to‑day duties of Pharmacy Procurement and Distribution with a focus on receiving and distributing medicines. Work is carried out under the supervision of the Senior Pharmacy Procurement and Distribution Team. The role supports cross‑site consistency in receiving practice.
Main duties
* Use EPIC to issue stock items to replenish wards, departments and community clinics.
* Use Omnicell to respond to stock requests and assist with stock optimisation.
* Assemble items on picking tickets ready for checking.
* Check and pack items previously picked for delivery.
* Top‑up drugs to designated wards and provide cover as needed.
* Complete cycle counts for Omnicell cabinets to maintain stock levels.
* Participate in stock checks and perform expiry checks, reporting inaccuracies, expired and short‑dated stock.
* Assist in issuing 'to follow' items for wards and departments.
* Check and record environmental temperatures, referring to senior colleague on anomalies.
* Return excess ward stock to Pharmacy Stores and confirm shelf life and quantities.
* Accept and sign receipt for deliveries of pharmaceutical products from suppliers.
* Unpack goods received, verify items against delivery notes and purchase orders, ensure good condition and tamper seals.
* File purchase orders and delivery notes according to procedure.
* Put away stock, report daily waste and complete documentation in line with local policies.
* Cover picking, issuing and delivery of IV fluids if required.
* Support daily checks of medical gases.
* Escalate issues to senior management team.

Job Responsibilities

* Unpack goods, verify against delivery notes and purchase orders, check condition, seals and shelf life.
* Sign purchase orders and delivery notes.
* Ensure practice across sites is consistent.
* Assist with QA release process of unlicensed medicines.
* File purchase orders and delivery notes.
* Maintain clean and safe working environment.
* Support daily checks of medical gas stores.
* Put away stock to robotic system or shelves.
* Provide daily waste disposal.
* Carry out general duties within stores/distribution areas as required.
* Cover picking, issuing and delivery of IV fluids if required.
Qualifications
* GCSE English and Maths (Grade A‑C)
Desirable
* NVQ Level 2 – Pharmacy Services
* Experience with medicines
* Experience in hospital environment
* Stock handling experience
Knowledge & Experience
* Understanding of the medicines supply chain in a hospital environment.
* Experience with medicines and hospital environment.

* Ability to communicate routine information in writing, electronically or orally to internal and external staff.
