The Music Therapist will apply their clinical expertise to facilitate engaging and therapeutically informed karaoke sessions for adults with learning difficulties. Through the creative and structured use of music, the therapist will actively foster an environment that builds confidence, enhances social interaction, and supports the development of friendships. A key aspect of this role will be observing and documenting the progress of participants in relation to these developmental goals. esponsibilities: Therapeutic Session Design & Facilitation: Collaborate with the Music Leader and Singing Tutor to design karaoke sessions that incorporate therapeutic principles to achieve goals related to confidence, social skills, and friendship development. Facilitate group singing and musical activities within the karaoke format, adapting approaches to meet the diverse needs and abilities of adults with learning difficulties. Utilize musical interventions (call-and-response, shared vocalizing, rhythmic games within songs, structured turn-taking) to encourage participation, self-expression, and positive group dynamics. Create a safe, encouraging, and non-judgmental space where participants feel comfortable taking risks and trying new things musically and socially. Observation, Documentation & Reporting: Systematically observe and assess participants' engagement, communication, confidence levels, and social interactions within the karaoke sessions. Maintain clear, concise, and confidential records of observations, noting individual and group progress against developmental goals Provide regular written updates and informal feedback to the Music Leader/Project Manager on how participants are developing their confidence and friendship skills through the sessions. These write-ups will highlight individual growth and group dynamics. Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with the Music Leader, Volunteer co-coordinators and the project volunteers offering therapeutic insights and strategies to enhance the overall effectiveness and inclusivity of the club. Provide guidance and informal training to volunteers on how to best support participants' therapeutic goals within the session structure. Contribute to a positive and cohesive team environment focused on the holistic well-being of club members. Professional Practice & Safeguarding: Adhere strictly to the professional standards, ethics, and codes of conduct set by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT). Engage in regular clinical supervision with a qualified supervisor to reflect on practice and ensure professional accountability. Maintain all necessary safeguarding training and strictly follow the organisation's safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. Adaptation & Resourcefulness: Be adaptable and resourceful in modifying musical activities and approaches to cater to the evolving needs and interests of the group.
