Applications are invited for the position of Stroke Consultant Physician based at Dorset County Hospital. We are seeking a new stroke physician to provide day-to-day stroke care and support the continued transformation of stroke services in line with our strategy and recent business case approval. This will include:
1. In-patient and out-patient care for patients referred with suspected stroke or TIA.
2. Participation in clinical activities such as audits, research, and governance to ensure high standards of patient care.
3. Contributing to a 24-hour acute stroke service, delivering thrombolysis, and advising on other specialist treatments.
4. Participating in consultant ward rounds at weekends and public holidays.
5. Providing clinical advice for community stroke services as required.
6. Providing continuing medical education and conducting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
7. Contributing to the development of clinical quality and effectiveness in overlapping clinical areas.

The Trust serves around 250,000 people in Dorset, with our main site in Dorchester near the Jurassic Coast. We are expanding our team to develop Hyper Acute Stroke Care and the Stroke Team at Dorset County Hospital, supporting a shared care model with Somerset. This new role offers opportunities for leadership, quality improvement, research, innovation, and training. Our stroke department provides a seven-day service for approximately 570 stroke patients annually, soon expanding to over 800. The Stroke Unit is being refurbished as a 30-bed Hyper Acute unit. Dorset County Hospital also collaborates with a 14-bed stroke and neurorehabilitation facility at Yeatman Community Hospital, North Dorset.
