6 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
The Senior Property Lawyer will act as the lead legal resource supporting the Council’s programme for the disposal of Council property assets. The role involves providing expert commercial property legal advice and delivering complex property transactions within agreed project timescales, while working collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external parties.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead on the legal aspects of the Council’s property disposal programme over the next 12–18 months.
* Manage and progress a variety of commercial property disposals, including transactions involving occupational leases and matters relating to securing vacant possession.
* Draft and negotiate bespoke property contracts and associated legal documentation.
* Prepare and review TP1s, TR1s, easements, rights of way, restrictions, and restrictive covenants.
* Handle purchaser due diligence enquiries and provide clear legal advice throughout transactions.
* Negotiate terms and take instructions from relevant stakeholders.
* Work collaboratively within the Property Law Team, reporting to the Senior Commercial Property Solicitor.
* Liaise closely with Council officers and other departments, particularly the Assets Transformation Lead – Commercial Property, to support project delivery.
* Ensure legal work is delivered accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with relevant legislation and best practice.
Requirements
* Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive, or Barrister with a minimum of 5 years’ PQE in Commercial Property Law.
* Strong experience handling commercial property disposals and transactions.
* Proven ability to draft bespoke legal property documentation, including TP1s and TR1s.
* Sound knowledge of easements, rights of way, restrictions, and restrictive covenants.
* Experience dealing with due diligence enquiries and negotiating transaction terms.
* Ability to manage a varied caseload independently while working effectively within a team environment.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Previous Local Government experience is advantageous but not essential.
