Exhibit and Disclosure Officer

Hours per week: 36 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

* Proven experience in the collation and management of exhibits Experience collating, assessing, summarising, scheduling and managing material gathered during criminal investigations Strong working knowledge of disclosure processes in line with legislation and policy Experience using the HOLMES database Ability to Record, Retain, Review and Reveal relevant material accurately
The role:
This is a specialist role supporting major crime investigations, operating in the dual capacity of Exhibits Officer and Disclosure Officer.
You will work closely with Senior Investigating Officers (SIOs), detectives, CPS, forensic experts and external partners to ensure:
* Integrity and continuity of exhibits Full compliance with disclosure legislation Fairness, impartiality and safeguarding within investigations
Accuracy, professionalism and sound judgement are critical to the success of this role.
Key accountabilities:
Exhibits Management
* Manage the collation, recording, continuity, storage and disposal of exhibits in line with legislation and force policy Maintain accurate exhibit records using HOLMES Ensure the integrity, security and availability of all evidential materia Identify forensic opportunities and advise the Senior Investigating Officer Prepare and manage forensic submissions and expert instructions Arrange and oversee secure transportation of exhibits, including attendance at crime scenes, post-mortems and court Attend court and present evidence when required Manage multiple investigations with competing priorities Liaise sensitively with victims’ families regarding property return
Disclosure Management
* Collate, assess, schedule and manage all unused material Apply relevancy and sensitivity tests in line with CPIA 1996 Complete disclosure certifications and maintain disclosure schedules Accurately summarise large volumes of complex and technical material Advise officers and staff on disclosure obligations and best practice Conduct disclosure risk assessments and develop disclosure strategies Respond to Defence Case Statements and disclosure requests Attend CPS conferences and court as a professional disclosure witness Ensure secure handling, storage and access to disclosure material
Human Tissue
* Maintain the Force Human Tissue Database Ensure compliance with the Human Tissue Act 2004 Coordinate the storage, transport and disposal of human tissue exhibits Liaise with coroners, pathologists, mortuaries and forensic specialists Attend mortuaries nationally to facilitate collection and delivery of exhibits
Requirements/key criteria:
Essential:
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage a complex, high-risk workload with minimal supervision High levels of accuracy, attention to detail and professional integrity Ability to analyse and summarise large volumes of technical material Strong organisational and prioritisation skills Confidence working with sensitive and distressing material High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
* Experience working within a Major Incident Room Previous disclosure officer experience on complex investigations
Knowledge of:
* Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA) Disclosure Manual Human Rights Act Human Tissue Act Experience of presenting evidence in court Forensic awareness and understanding of continuity and contamination issues
