Job description As Head of Building Compliance & Services you will have full responsibility for the productivity and service provision of our Regional Building Surveyor, Building Compliance & Development teams in relation to the retail shop estate, racecourses & stadia portfolio. Reporting directly to the Director of Retail Support & Experience, the Head of Building Compliance & Services will work closely with the Business Efficiency, Retail Contact & Loss Prevention, Building Services, and Retail Operations teams, alongside key third-party suppliers and internal stakeholders, to ensure all planned and reactive building maintenance activities are delivered to the highest standard and in line with agreed SLAs.

The role will be responsible for overseeing building compliance, Licensing responsibilities (Good Neighbour) Health & Safety standards, and both internal and external structural works across the retail estate. In addition, the Head of Building Compliance & Services will support the successful delivery of key retail initiatives, including managing CAPEX shop upgrades, refurbishment programs, and new development projects and opportunities through 'at-risk' locations and re-sites, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with business objectives.

You will act as the primary point of contact for internal teams and key third-party stakeholders, ensuring all required policy documentation is maintained, accurate, and up to date. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining effective controls, governance, and monitoring processes to drive regulatory and operational performance standards across the retail estate.

The role will provide leadership and decision-making support during incidents and escalations, ensuring issues are managed effectively and resolved within agreed service levels. You will develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the organisation, ensuring clear and consistent communication is delivered at all levels.

In addition, you will be responsible for providing regular reporting, operational data, and performance insight to the wider business, supporting informed decision-making, continuous improvement initiatives, and forward-looking operational planning.


What you will be doing:

1. Hold full responsibility for service delivery and productivity of our Regional Building Surveyors & Building Compliance & Development teams
2. Responsible for ensuring full compliance and adherence to all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements across the estate, including Asbestos Management, Electrical Testing, HVAC, Fire Safety, Signage, Pest Control, and Lift Regulations - ensuring all properties and facilities operate in line with current legislative and safety standards and are periodically reported to the board of directors
3. Oversee FM contingency spend, ensuring all expenditure is appropriately reviewed, controlled, and managed within budget parameters
4. Lead the delivery of the shop refresh programs, ensuring projects are completed on time and within agreed budget
5. Responsible for the business cases and management of our 'at-risk' locations and oversee the successful delivery of new and re-site projects, ensuring delivery to agreed timelines, standards, and budget requirements.
6. Awareness of current planning, licensing legislation and Local authority planning and supporting the license and development team with liaising with local authority consultations
7. Promoting licensing awareness across the estate, ensuring colleagues are best placed to be adopting procedures which will help protect our premises licenses
8. Support service reviews held with key 3rd party suppliers by relevant accountable stakeholders through the monitoring relevant of SLAs and handling of faults, proactively providing key reporting and trend information
