Overview
I'm working with a leading UK subcontractor specialising in the installation and maintenance of passive fire protection, thermal insulation, and acoustic barrier systems across the construction industry. They support major contractors on new build and refurbishment projects, as well as social housing providers on planned and reactive maintenance works.
The business is now looking to hire an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Plymouth. This role would suit someone with some existing QS experience – either with a contractor or subcontractor – who is looking to grow their commercial skills further and be trained in a highly specialised, in‑demand discipline.
Responsibilities
* Assist with the review of tender documentation and identification of project requirements and risks.
* Help produce schedules of works, budgets, and Bills of Quantities.
* Support the commercial management of live projects, ensuring accurate reporting and cost tracking.
* Attend site visits (with most work based in the Plymouth office).
* Support the preparation of valuations, variations, and final accounts.
* Work closely with operational teams, suppliers, and clients to ensure smooth project delivery.
Qualifications
* Some experience in a QS or Assistant QS role (contractor or subcontractor background ideal).
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
* Strong IT skills, particularly Excel, Word, and other project‑reporting tools.
* A good commercial understanding and an awareness of project lifecycles.
