Locum consultant Paediatric Haematologist/Oncologist

3 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants

We are excited to announce a 10PA Locum Consultant position in Paediatric Haematology or Paediatric Oncology at Nottingham University Hospitals. This role, due to a paediatric haematology expansion, is for 10 months, with a possibility of extension, and is open to oncology applicants. The duties will depend on the candidate's experience, prioritizing leukaemia and solid tumours. We welcome haematologists who can handle benign cases or oncologists seeking their first role in a supportive team. Our EMCYPICS serves as a principal treatment center for malignant haematology across Nottingham and Leicester, with around 140 new malignant cases annually. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is a Specialist Haemoglobinopathies Team and part of the East Midlands Sickle and Thalassemia network, as well as a Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre.

Our inpatient unit includes a Teenage Cancer Trust area, daycare facilities, and paediatric intensive care access, with post-autologous stem cell transplant care in partnership with Sheffield. We look forward to applications from enthusiastic individuals eager to join our dynamic team.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work as part of the consultant team to provide inpatient care to the haematology and oncology service on a 1 in 7.5 service week basis as well as having specific named patients with leukaemia and solid tumours. The post is for 10PAs but applications from those wishing to consider job share or more flexible arrangements are also invited and this can be discussed.

It is essential that applicants have specific training in either paediatric haematology or oncology, are fully registered with the GMC with entry to the specialist register for haematology or oncology expected within 6 months or a CESR expected within 1 year. Please refer to the job description for full details. Additional enquiries and visits are very welcome.

About Us

The successful applicant will become part of a friendly and collaborative team of 8 consultant haematologists and oncologists. We have strong links with the University of Nottingham, with two team members having academic appointments. There are currently 3 consultants covering the haematology service with one lead each for leukaemia, haemostasis and red cell disorders. We also have a haemostasis consultant who looks after children as well as adults with bleeding disorders. The wider paediatric team is very welcoming and sociable and includes general paediatrics, nephrology, rheumatology, metabolic, gastroenterology, intensive care and interests in cardiology. We have excellent links with paediatric surgery with dedicated theatre time for line insertions and have twice weekly dedicated bone marrow/intrathecal lists. Nottingham and the surrounding area is a hidden gem, being a beautiful yet affordable place to live with outstanding nearby schools and excellent transport links to other major cities.
