Alecto Recruitment is partnering with an established Owner Operator of CCGT Power Stations across the UK. Together we are seeking a Mechanical Technician to join their maintenance team on their Hertfordshire site to carry out mechanical maintenance activities.
What's on offer:
£45,000 - £48,000
Living Allowance: £2,172 per annum
Discretionary bonus: to 20%
Overtime 1.5x base
LTIP Entitlement: Fixed Value: £1,000, Variable Value: £3,000

Role Overview
Carry out hands-on mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and repair activities across plant equipment and systems.
Plan and coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure safe, reliable plant performance.
Prepare risk assessments, method statements, and work packs for maintenance tasks and shutdown activities.
Manage contractors and maintenance service contracts, including supervision during outages, inspections, and overhauls.
Support major plant inspections, interim outages, and mechanical overhauls across thermal generation assets.
Ensure full compliance with HSE legislation, company safety rules, and environmental standards.
Act as Competent Person / Authorised Person where required to support safe system of work, isolation, and permit processes.
Provide 24/7 maintenance support and rapid fault response during plant failures and breakdowns.
Support budget control, procurement, and technical specification development for mechanical works and spares.
Work cross-functionally with operations, suppliers, and other engineering disciplines to improve reliability and maintenance best practice.
Skills & Qualification
Clear and confident communicator, able to operate effectively within both open-plan office and site-based environments.
Professional, dependable, and accountable, with a strong sense of ownership across all areas of responsibility.
Background in power generation is preferred; however, candidates with strong transferable experience from heavy industrial sectors will also be considered, including pharmaceutical, marine, waste-to-energy, and other process-intensive industries.
MUST BE: at minimum HNC qualified in a Mechanical Engineering field with demonstrable practical maintenance and plant engineering experience.
Open-minded, adaptable, and resilient with a collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit team.
Flexible and responsive to changing plant priorities and operational demands.
Analytical and decisive under pressure, with strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills particularly during live plant issues or failures.
Demonstrates the potential and ambition to progress into a Team Leader position in the future.
