ORGANISATION: Second Home Studios

LOCATION: 17 Pickford Street, Birmingham, B5 5QH. This opportunity is available to those who live within a commutable distance of the office. Due to working hours, we recommend a maximum of one hour from / to base (Birmingham, B5 5QH). Please note there will be no reimbursement of travel to and from work.

CONTRACT TYPE: 19-months Fixed term contract, Full time (September 2026 to April 2028).

SALARY: £24,650 per year.

The BBC Flexi Job Apprentice Agency (FJAA) is offering an exciting opportunity to join Second Home Studios in Birmingham as a Post-Production Technical Operator Apprentice working across a variety of projects including post production for Silent Witness.

Through the BBC's Flexi-Job Apprenticeship Agency, you will be hired by the BBC and be placed with Second Home Studios for the duration of your apprenticeship. The BBC will work with Second Home Studios and the National Film and Television School to oversee your successful completion on the apprenticeship.

With expertise across 2D, stop motion, CGI and live action, Second Home Studios offers a fast paced and supportive setting where attention to detail and creative problem solving are key.


WHY BECOME A POST PRODUCTION TECHNICAL OPERATOR APPRENTICE?

This apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to earn while you learn, building practical industry experience alongside a nationally recognised qualification. You'll develop technical, organisational and creative skills that are essential for working in post production across TV, film and animation.

Apprentices from this pathway often progress into roles such as Post Production Assistant, Assistant Editor, Junior Editor or Production Assistant within post production or broadcast environments.


YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

You will support Second Home Studio's editors and compositors in bridging the gap between tactile, physical footage and digital precision, transforming raw captures into award winning content.

• Ingesting, organising and managing media using agreed naming conventions and server structures.
• Preparing assets for compositing, including basic masking, rotoscoping and digital clean ups where required
• Supporting quality control by checking sequences for technical issues, continuity errors and glitches
• Assisting with editorial tasks such as rough assemblies, transcoding and preparing files for delivery
• Supporting green screen keying and colour preparation tasks under supervision
• Managing archiving, backup and secure storage of completed project files
• Providing day to day post production support to the wider team on active projects

You'll be studying your industry recognised qualification, learning both on- and off-the-job in a programme by the National Film & Television School in Beaconsfield.

An apprenticeship requires full commitment and discipline from the learner. Alongside experiences and training, there is an expectation of wider self-learning and the requirement to meet learning objectives and deadlines, as outlined by the apprenticeship standards.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must:

* Be aged 18 or over when the apprenticeship starts in 2 Sept 2026.
* Live within a commutable distance of central Birmingham.
* Have lived in the UK continuously for the last 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeship
* Be legally eligible to work full-time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship
* Not currently be taking part in an apprenticeship scheme supported by the BBC or another organisation.

To apply for this scheme, you must also:

* Not have completed or hold qualifications in the apprenticeship subject at the same or higher level.
* Be available for the in-person assessment which will take place on Wednesday 29 July 2026 at BBC Birmingham.
* Be able to start on Wednesday 2 September 2026.

For candidates under the age of 19 years at 2 September 2026: To complete the apprenticeship, you must have achieved Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above or National 5 (Scotland) at C or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent qualification. If you have not achieved these qualifications by the start of your apprenticeship, you will be required to achieve Functional Skills Level 2 before the end of your apprenticeship when you take your end-point assessment.
