Overview
Equans is looking for a Senior Electrical Operations Manager to join our team in Edinburgh on a permanent basis. This full‑time role (40 hours per week) offers a competitive salary, a company vehicle or allowance, a bonus and a benefits package.
The role holder will oversee the provision of services to The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, ensuring effective management of daily operations and coordination of electrical service delivery and compliance. This role is integral to maintaining consistent and high‑quality service delivery.
Responsibilities
* Delivery of Hard FM services utilising direct service delivery and management of specialist subcontractors.
* Formulate operational strategies interfacing with clients for educational properties and services.
* Management of daily operations and coordination of electrical service delivery and compliance.
* Provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to junior staff; foster their professional development and ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities.
* Produce accurate and comprehensive technical reports regarding electrical system installations, maintenance and repairs, ensuring high quality and valuable insights.
* Perform PPM and Reactive Planned Maintenance tasks assigned through Maximo or other designated systems; sign off completed work and report issues to the shift lead.
* Provide clear direction, objectives and expectations to staff; review performance, give constructive feedback, recognise achievements and identify development needs.
Qualifications
* Previous managerial experience on a PFI/BSF contract within the health environment or similar.
* People‑management experience, able to lead a team.
* Experience undertaking HR procedures, especially absence and performance management.
* Knowledge of the commercial aspects of an FM contract.
* Membership of a professional body (e.g., BIFM, CIBSE, IAM, IET).
* Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with all staff.
* Proven experience as a Senior Electrical Technician or similar role in a healthcare environment.
* Strong knowledge of SHTM, PPMs and SLAs.
* Excellent understanding of engineering building services installation and maintenance techniques.
* Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills with ability to coach and develop junior staff.
