About the role
You will provide support to the Group Senior Counsel and Group General Counsel in respect of all legal matters arising for Group companies and also for the compliance and corporate governance activities of all group entities, in particular, Argenta Private Capital Limited (APCL), Argenta Syndicate Management Limited (ASML), as well as our Australian business. You will assist as required with any aspects of the Group Legal and Compliance Function’s responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Advising on all legal matters relevant to any of the Group entities, including commercial agreements, products, distribution arrangements, acquisitions, real estate and commercial litigation.
* Providing support on insurance wordings and on claims related matters, as required.
* Conducting research, interpreting and reporting on key and relevant components of PRA, FCA Lloyd’s and international regulation applying to the Group’s current regulated activities, along with those arising from future strategic developments.
* Liaising with external counsel and to maintain and further develop the systems to manage external counsel relationships and legal spend across the Group.
* Managing the development, updating and enhancement of the Group’s legal and compliance procedures, policies and process documents.
* Assisting with the monitoring of compliance with all PRA, FCA, Lloyd’s and international regulatory deadlines, including the timely submission of regulatory returns where required.
* Assisting in the maintenance of an effective governance structure across the Group, including the provision of management information, report writing and company secretarial (including minute taking) support, as required.
* Developing training materials in relation to legal and compliance matters and to deliver periodic training to staff as required.
* Supporting the Group Data Protection Officer and MLRO to ensure effective compliance with applicable laws.
* Assisting with the co-ordination of the timely processing of complaints from clients, in accordance with the complaints handling procedures.
* Undertake any other related duties as may be reasonably required.

Skills & Experience
* You must be a qualified and practising Solicitor, Barrister, Attorney at law (or equivalent jurisdictional designation) with post qualification experience.
* You will have knowledge of contract and commercial law and also insurance law concepts; knowledge and experience of the operation of the Lloyd’s and London insurance market is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of the regulatory environment in which the Lloyd’s market operates is desirable.
* A high standard of written work, with excellent attention to detail, accuracy and timely delivery.
* Ability to use initiative in undertaking research / analysis, presenting findings in concise written form and applying output in the development of policy.
* A conscientious and highly diligent manner and approach which matches regulatory expectations.
* Ability to deal competently with pressure and prioritise workloads.
* Strong influencing skills with an ability to interact confidently with senior staff members and provide clear, concise and coherent messages to them.
* Ability to develop relationships at all levels across the Group.
* To demonstrate thought leadership in relation to legal and compliance issues for the Group entities to support the effective delivery and implementation of robust and documented systems and controls.
* Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
* Competency in use of standard office IT applications.
