Salary: £13.33 per hour (circa £26,000 per annum) Job Type: Full-Time Permanent Position Hours: Shift-based, Waking Nights (including weekends & bank holidays) About the Role We are seeking a dedicated Support Worker to provide consistent overnight care, safety, and emotional support to children and young people with complex trauma, attachment needs, and behavioural difficulties living in solo residential placements. You will create a calm, nurturing environment, supporting emotional regulation, responding to incidents, and ensuring each young person feels safe and secure. The role is guided by trauma-informed practice, including PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) and Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP). Key Responsibilities Maintain a calm, reassuring presence throughout the night. Support young people with night-time routines, settling, and emotional reassurance. Monitor wellbeing and respond appropriately to distress, anxiety, or incidents. Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times. Carry out regular welfare, safety, fire, and security checks. Accurately complete night logs, incident reports, and handovers for day staff. Support emotional regulation using de-escalation and co-regulation approaches. Maintain a clean, safe environment through light household and laundry tasks. Work closely with the wider team to ensure continuity of care. Requirements 2 years experience supporting children or young people with trauma, attachment needs, or challenging behaviour. Strong understanding of safeguarding and residential care practice. Calm, patient, and emotionally resilient approach. Ability to work waking night shifts on a rota basis.
