Quarries produce a wide range of materials for use in industry and construction. These include rocks and stone of all types of sand, gravel and other minerals and materials. Many quarries have ancillary plants producing asphalt, ready-mixed concrete and concrete products, while others have industrial plants producing lime, bricks and refractory sands and specialised products. The Quarry Operative reports direct to the quarry manager and will be responsible for the daily operation of various mobile & static plant, ensuring that Health, Safety & wellbeing of themselves and others is at the forefront of their mind along with maintaining high standards for quality & environmental control. Transporting materials utilising dumpers. Loading trucks with quarry material by utilising a loading shovel to complete the task. Feeding crushers and screens utilsing excavators. Completing housekeeping duties around site. Maintaining a tidy quarry, which include stockpiles, haul roads, bunds, loading areas. Haul roads have to be well maintained to ensure machinery does not get damaged. Maintenance of mobile / production plant, ancillary equipment (pumps etc.) ensuring well-greased, tidy, clean inside (dust free), doing daily checks, reporting of defects. Dust suppression around quarry when required. Ability to provide cover for other roles in a multitasking environment. Running weighbridge if required as well as loading trucks. Responsible for adhering to and ensuring self and others follow health & safety and environmental compliance with Company rules and expectations, as well as any legal obligations. Ensure focused, proactive communication of any incident & potential near miss/hazards within the work area to the Company's Health, Safety Department and Line Management. To complete ad hoc duties, tasks and projects as requested management, when the needs of the business dictate. You will have an energetic "hands on" approach and the ability to anticipate problems and consider a solution and the ability to negotiate and work collaboratively with colleagues on both a formal and informal level.
