We are seeking a contractor to join our growing Statistical Innovation group as a Statistical Science Associate Director. Our focus is providing statistical methodology support across all phases of clinical development for AZ’s Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism, Respiratory & Immunology divisions, and targeted support for Oncology, Rare Diseases, and Vaccines.
This role belongs to the Respiratory Biometrics and Statistical Innovation department, where our data-driven approach helps us work efficiently and creatively to bring the right medicines to the right patients. Our team leverages expertise in statistics and programming to address drug development challenges and reduce uncertainty, enabling better business decisions through quantitative reasoning.
Main duties and responsibilities:
As part of a team of statistical methodology experts, you will provide key insights and solutions during critical stages of the drug development cycle. Your work will be technically challenging and dynamic, often requiring pragmatic solutions within tight timelines. You will focus on delivering initial solutions quickly, then refining them over time.
You will contribute to or lead capability building in areas such as:
* Design of early and late-phase clinical studies, including group sequential and adaptive designs using both frequentist and Bayesian methods.
* Analysis methods for real-time data collection, Estimands, Missing Data, Subgroups, and Biomarkers.
You will also provide expert consultancy to statisticians, medical scientists, and other stakeholders, leading strategic initiatives like capability building projects that improve clinical trial design and analysis at AstraZeneca. Additionally, you will develop and implement new methodologies, collaborate with external scientists and regulators through publications and presentations, and identify new areas where statistical innovation can add value, fostering relationships with external scientific and academic communities.
Requirements:
* PhD in Statistics or a related discipline, with experience in academic research and/or clinical drug development.
* Proven ability to deliver innovative statistical solutions in applied environments, including design and analysis of clinical studies, real-time data analysis, Missing Data, Estimands, Subgroups, and Biomarkers.
* Strong programming skills in R and/or SAS.
* Ability to work collaboratively across global teams.
* Research record with publications in reputable statistical journals.
* Desire to apply scientific expertise to practical problems benefiting patients.
* Knowledge or research experience in safety data analysis, observational studies, meta-analysis, Bayesian methods, non-linear, and mixed-effects models.
* Understanding of evolving scientific and regulatory statistical issues.
