Role Purpose:
As aProcurement Managerwithin Rolls-Royce SMR, you will play a critical role in shaping and delivering commodity strategies in a New Product Introduction environment. Unlike traditional procurement roles, this position requires building the supply base from the ground up—there is no established supply chain. Instead, you will be responsible for developing it through robust, insight-driven strategies.
You will lead the creation of commodity strategies by conducting in-depth market research, supplier positioning analysis, cost, capacity modelling, and value stream mapping. These strategies will not only define how we source and engage with suppliers but will also influence the direction of both design and commercial decision-making. Your work will ensure that procurement is embedded early in the product lifecycle, enabling cost-effective, scalable, and resilient supply solutions that align with our long-term programme goals.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of nuclear manufacturing and leave a lasting impact on a first-of-its-kind engineering programme.
Key responsibilities:
Experience in delivering supply chain solutions within highly regulated environment.
You will have held a front-line role in procurement or operations, delivering against challenging objectives and tight timescales. Your experience should demonstrate a commercially astute approach, with the ability to balance cost, risk, and value across complex procurement activities. Ideally, your background spans cross-functional areas including strategic sourcing, commercial negotiations, project delivery, regulatory compliance, logistics, and end-to-end procurement solutions. You will be expected to apply commercial insight to influence decision-making, optimise supplier relationships, and drive value throughout the procurement lifecycle.
Ability to apply the framework to deliver specific supply chain strategy.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in developing and deploying strategic procurement frameworks that deliver high-value outcomes. This includes crafting commodity strategies that align with business objectives, leveraging global market opportunities, and navigating diverse regulatory environments. A key part of the role involves embedding best practices into procurement processes and driving innovation across the supply base. The candidate should be capable of translating strategic intent into actionable plans that optimise cost, quality, and delivery performance while supporting long-term programme success.
Stakeholder management and ability to influence others
The Procurement Manager is a core member of the Integrated Project Team (IPT) and must be capable of leading and influencing procurement and compliance considerations within cross-functional decision-making. Effective communication and collaboration with engineering, commercial, manufacturing, and project management functions are essential. The role requires the ability to advocate for procurement priorities—such as cost, risk, value, and regulatory compliance—while aligning with broader programme objectives. Acting as a representative of the business in both internal and external forums, the Procurement Manager must demonstrate strong interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, ensuring that procurement strategies are fully embedded in programme delivery.
Team Management Responsibilities
You will have experience leading and developing a high-performing procurement team, demonstrating the ability to operate independently and with confidence. The successful candidate will lead by example—setting high standards, making informed decisions, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
You must be capable of effective planning and prioritisation, even in the face of ambiguity and evolving requirements. Supporting your team through uncertainty with clarity and direction is essential to maintaining momentum and morale.
You will collaborate with your team to generate meaningful insights into procurement performance and commercial outcomes. This includes implementing robust performance management processes to set clear goals, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback. Your leadership will be instrumental in building a resilient, agile, and commercially focused procurement function that drives the success of the wider business.
