Nurse / Paramedic - Refugee and Asylum Seeker Service
The service reflects the needs of refugee and asylum seekersand is delivered across an increasing number of hotels predominantly around inwest sussex. Because this service spansacross Surrey and Sussex staff may need to travel some distance on occasions tosee patients in hotels.
This post is offered as a fixed term contract offersclinicians the opportunity to develop additional skills and experience thephysical and mental health needs of refugees and asylum seekers.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of a team that provides anurgent primary care response 7 days a week 0800-20:00 to refugee and asylumseekers accommodated in hotels in Sussex and Surrey, as well as responsibilityfor various assessments including health checks/TB checks/ and vaccinationprogrammes as required by Public Health to ensure that health needs of refugeesand asylum seekers are met.

Supervision
Regular supervisions on a one-to-one basis including anannual formal appraisal will be held with a line manager. If you are in apatient-facing role, you will also receive regular Clinical Supervisions with aClinical Supervisor.
Job responsibilities
Responsible to: Nurse/Paramedic - RASS
Proposed salary: Band 7.1 on the ABC pay scale, which is equivalent to £42,592.33(£21.84 per hour) annum dependent on experience (pro rata)
Hours of work: Fixed term contract until September 2026 (shifts 0800-20:00)
Tenure: Part time/full time
Base: Horley Health Hub/Hybrid- a Sussex base
Primaryduties and areas of responsibility
Work collaboratively with the team, to providean urgent primary care response to refugees and asylum seekers accommodated inthe hotels.
Carry out opportunistic and planned healthscreening programmes to meet identified need for refugees and asylum seekersliving in hotels, including TB checks/health checks and vaccination.
Liaise closely with partners, making referrals,signposting and supporting access to local health services, including access tomaternity, mental health and primary care.Provide information, advice and support torefugees and asylum seekers on issues relevant to physical and mental health.

Participate in the identification ofsafeguarding and adhere to ABCs processes and Surrey/Sussex SafeguardingAdults and Childrens procedures.
Document where safeguarding concerns have beenidentified, and make referrals as required.
Assist in the delivery of specific groups ifrequired, to promote access to healthcare and public health initiatives such aswomens health sessions e.g., health screening.
Attend all designated statutory and mandatorytraining and additional training provided to upskill team in issues specific tothe needs of refugees and asylum seekers.
Participate in theorientation and induction of new staff and promote good interpersonalrelationships within the team.
Ensure all practiceis evidence based.
Attend RASSmeetings as appropriate
Maintain standardsand practice in relation to professional records/ record keeping
Adhere to allprofessional, clinical policies within ABC as well as regulatory bodies.
Be prepared to workflexibly, to travel across east Surrey/Sussex to deliver this service
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working in primary or urgent/emergency care
* Experience with Safeguarding processes
* Experience of working with vulnerable client groups
* Experience of dealing with a range of clinical conditions as typically seen through primary care and/or urgent care
Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to organise workload, prioritise and work autonomously
* Broad range of clinical skills
* Good knowledge of safeguarding
* Good knowledge of current health issues for refugees and asylum seekers
* Good understanding of primary care and urgent care presentations
Personal Attributes
* Valid licence to drive in the UK with access to a car for business use with appropriate insurance
* Effectively able to communicate and understand the needs of the patient
* Ability to work under pressure/in stressful situations
* Sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations to the needs of refugees and asylum seekers
* Problem solver with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required
Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse qualification, (Adult) certificate/degree or registered paramedic- minimum 5 years current or recent experience
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
