Role Overview : Lead Mechanical Technician We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Lead Mechanical Technician (LMech) to oversee the safe and effective delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities across a critical environment. This includes supervising both internal technicians and subcontractors.
This hands:on supervisory role requires participation in a shift rota and active involvement in day:to:day operations. The Lead Mechanical Technician will ensure technical excellence, safety compliance, and optimal team performance across all mechanical systems on site.
Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership
: Act as deputy to the Technical Services Supervisor (TSS) when required.
: Participate in emergency escalation protocols and provide out:of:hours technical support.
: Ensure all team members and contractors adhere to safe systems of work, including RAMS, LOTO, and Permit to Work procedures.
: Maintain required site certifications and act as an Authorised Person (AP) as appointed.
: Lead by example in upholding technical standards, professionalism, and safety culture.
Maintenance and Engineering
: Oversee and perform routine and reactive maintenance on mechanical systems and critical infrastructure.
: Diagnose and repair faults efficiently, escalating complex issues when necessary.
: Coordinate task scheduling with the DigiHub/Helpdesk and liaise with end users for access and timing.
: Ensure all maintenance works, including those performed by subcontractors, meet engineering standards and industry best practices.
: Support small:scale project works and asset replacement tasks as directed.
Team and Stakeholder Management
: Allocate technician and subcontractor resources effectively to meet operational deadlines and service quality.
: Promote a team culture focused on safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
: Foster strong working relationships with clients, engineers, and external vendors.
: Mentor and support the professional development of technicians and apprentices.
Reporting and Compliance
: Provide regular progress and issue reports to the TSS, highlighting resource needs or operational challenges.
: Ensure all activities are logged accurately in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
: Adhere to all regulatory compliance and internal engineering standards.
: Complete all assigned training requirements and maintain up:to:date technical competencies.
Required Qualifications and Experience Education and Training
: NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
: Valid Authorised Person (AP) certification (desirable).
Experience
: Minimum 5 years of hands:on mechanical maintenance experience.
: Previous work in a critical or high:reliability environment is highly desirable.

: Strong fault:finding and diagnostic capabilities.
: Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems, engineering standards, and statutory regulations.
IT and Systems
: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
