The Keyworker Service (Maternity Cover Post)
The National Health Service Long Term Plan (LTP) includes the commitment that by 2023/24 children and young people with a learning disability, autism or both with the most complex needs will have a designated keyworker. This has come as a result of Dame Christine Lenehan's review called ‘These are our Children' following the abuse experienced at Winterbourne View by individuals with a Learning Disability.
Keyworkers work across the system with and for CYP and families, capitalising on cross-system knowledge and experience to help them effectively navigate services. They support lead professionals and work across sectors to facilitate timely and properly integrated assessment, care and support, including education, care and health services and processes.
The role of the Keyworker service is to be a system enhancer and involves being confident in challenging the system when necessary; and forming strong relationships with CYP and families. Working closely and in partnership with Enfold who provide the peer support element to the service.
The successful candidate will work alongside a team who will have been recruited from a range of professional backgrounds within education, social care, health and the third sector to establish a multi-disciplinary team.
Key Skills to be successful within the role:
1. Continuous Learning: Demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt, particularly in navigating systems to assist families and young people.
2. Confidence with IT Systems: Proficient in using digital platforms such as word, Teams, Excel and Barnardo's Databases and tools to support service delivery and communication.
3. Virtual Communication: Skilled in conducting and participating in online meetings effectively.
4. Adaptability: Thrives in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same.
5. Organisational Skills: Capable of managing own calendar, ensuring effective time management and scheduling.
6. Caseload Management: Experienced in prioritising workload and managing multiple cases independently.
7. Accurate Record-Keeping: Maintains detailed and compliant records in line with organisational standards.
8. Safeguarding Knowledge: Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and ability to apply them in practice.
9. Collaborative Leadership: Encourages other professionals to be proactive, receptive to challenge, and open to change.

Pay & Reward Framework
We know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo's . We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people.
For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which was rolled out in April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a part of our Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to belong, thrive and grow in their colleague journey at Barnardo's and in time will offer clear routes of progression for colleagues in both their career and their pay.
Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours. More details on Barnardo's pay framework can be found upon application.
