Who We Are
Malin Marine Services, part of the Malin Group, is a trusted leader in precision welding and fabrication renowned for delivering specialist projects across nuclear, construction, and defence industries. From concept to completion, we tackle complex projects with a commitment to quality and excellence, making us the preferred partner for specialist welding needs across the UK.
Why join us?
You’ll have the chance not only to make an immediate impact on our current welding and machining work but also to help shape our future. We’re actively exploring new capabilities — from additive manufacturing and hybrid processes to smarter tooling, automation, and advanced materials. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a team building a workshop that’s evolving quickly and to put your mark on how it grows.
About the role
We are currently seeing significant opportunities in manufacturing and basic machining of components and sub-assemblies to high tolerances and levels of quality. The role will see you working within a tight knit team which already delivers advanced manufacturing on complex projects as well as contingent labour supply of specialist welders to client sites.
You will be leading, along with our Production Manager, Welding Inspector and Workshop Supervisor, a transformation project to take the small specialist in house welding team and grow them via training and new equipment to match the current market demand.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a proactive and practical individual with a strong background in welding, fabrication, and/or machining, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment. You should be comfortable managing technical projects, coordinating across teams, and driving hands-on improvements in workshop processes. Experience with weld procedures, basic machining operations, and equipment commissioning is highly desirable.
Above all, we value a team player with a problem-solving mindset, a keen eye for quality, and a drive to help us build smarter, safer, and more efficient manufacturing capabilities.
Skills and Experience
* Strong knowledge of TIG, MIG/MAG, orbital, and specialist welding techniques
* Experience with weld procedure qualification, coding, and inspection standards
* Understanding of materials behaviour during welding (e.g., stainless steels, alloys, dissimilar joints)
* Familiarity with NDT methods and QA for welded structures
* Hands-on experience with workshop equipment (welding stations, jigs, fume extraction)
* Exposure to basic machining (milling, turning, drilling) and setting up in-house capability
* Competence with CAD/CAM and interpreting engineering drawings with weld/machining symbols
* Practical knowledge of fixturing, tooling, and work holding
* Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement
* Strong problem-solving and cross-functional communication skills
Where will you be working?
You will be based at Westway Business Park, Renfrew. Westway is Scotland’s largest full enclosed industrial park, the park is currently home to Malin Marine Services and our sister company Malin Equipment.
