Role Information
The Pastoral Support Officer will work closely with Heads of Year, the Safeguarding Lead, SENCO, and teaching staff to provide day-to-day support for pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties.
Key responsibilities include managing pupil behaviour interventions, monitoring pastoral referrals, liaising with families, supporting restorative conversations, keeping accurate pastoral records, and assisting with safeguarding processes.
You will deliver targeted 1:1 and group support sessions, help pupils re-engage with learning, manage pastoral spaces, support crisis situations, and contribute to multi-agency meetings when necessary.
The role requires empathy, firmness, excellent communication, and the ability to build trust with young people while maintaining professional boundaries.
Requirements
• Experience in pastoral support, youth work, mentoring, safeguarding, or behaviour support
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
• Confident managing challenging behaviour
• Excellent record-keeping and organisational abilities
• Calm, resilient, patient, and solution-focused
• Ability to work closely with pastoral and safeguarding teams
