* Location: Wessex Neurological Intensive Care Unit, University Hospital Southampton
Overview
This post is appointed on a fixed‑term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training and supervised clinical development. While the postholder will contribute to service delivery, the overarching purpose of the post is to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum.
Responsibilities
* Daily management of neurological intensive care patients, including attending and presenting patients at ward rounds.
* Perform and develop core clinical skills such as central venous line insertion, arterial cannulation, lung ultrasound, transthoracic echocardiography, lumbar puncture, cerebrospinal fluid sampling, and multimodal neuro‑monitoring.
* Manage organ support measures and support senior staff in brain stem death testing and organ donation.
* Maintain meticulous record keeping and provide comprehensive clinical handover.
* Attend mandatory teaching sessions, multidisciplinary meetings, and support teaching initiatives.
* Participate in clinical research trials, audits, and present at regional, national, and international conferences.
Qualifications
* Successful completion of UK Foundation Training or equivalent.
* Desirable previous ICU experience; not essential.
* Training background or interests in anaesthesia, surgery, critical care, or any Acute Care Common Stem speciality.
* Strong computer literacy and commitment to thorough documentation.
