An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to join Rolls‑Royce.
What You Will Be Doing
* Act as a technical PoC for power electronic systems involved with AC to DC, DC to AC, DC to DC conversion and solid‑state power controllers.
* Develop optimum power electronic solutions to suit the requirements of the wider electrical power system, considering the characteristics and requirements of the energy sources and loads, including power quality, EMC and protection.
* Take full ownership of specific solutions from concept through to design, testing and final installation, incorporating electrical, thermal and mechanical aspects.
* Present solutions at design review gates and interface with internal and external customers as needed.
* Drive new and innovative approaches, capturing intellectual property and directing longer‑term research initiatives at Rolls‑Royce’s university technology centres.
* Provide expert advice and mentoring to junior power electronics engineers and collaborate across teams for optimal system solutions.
* Keep a watching brief on the latest developments in power electronics technology to maintain competitive advantage.
* Liaise with the wider international power electronics community and support development of common standards and guidelines.
What We’re Looking For
* At least 5 years of experience in the development, design, implementation and verification of power electronic systems.
* Working knowledge of plant and platform interfaces, component technology and behaviour, verification vehicles, electrical design, system architecture and development process constraints.
* Direct experience of modelling and simulation tools for designing and developing power electronic conversion systems within multi‑converter electrical power systems.
* Demonstrable experience with PCB design using Altium and/or Cadence is an advantage.
* Appreciation of associated engineering disciplines; a university degree, higher degree or equivalent.
* Good time‑management skills, able to prioritise and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment.
* Ability to research application issues and products, seeking solutions beyond the immediate area, including suppliers, universities, customers and related industries.
* Ability to train others and deliver training material where required.
