Adult Therapy Pathway Lead - Stroke/Neuro/Older Person's Therapy

We are currently seeking maternity leave cover for a Band 8a OT/Physio Pathway Lead in Medicine.
Main duties of the job
This post offers the opportunity to deliver operational management for a large team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Therapy Technicians, service development, and clinical leadership whilst maintaining a clinical role.
You would be responsible for supporting teams within the Older Person's Therapy, Stroke, Neuro-outlier services across Weston General Hospital (WGH) and the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI).
The Medicine Therapy Teams are currently undergoing a period of restructure across the BRI and WGH sites. This will include a review of the Pathway Leads in terms of the services they cover and the sites that they are based/work across.
The post will:
* Primarily be based in WGH but may require regular shifts being delivered atBRI depending on the results of the restructure.
* Work closely with the Divisional Lead for Therapies, other Pathway Leads and Clinical Specialists within Medicine across BRI, South Bristol Community Hospital and WGH
* Provide clinical leadership and expertise to the integrated teams supporting older people and medical neurology patients across both BRI and WGH sites.
* They will be the operational line manager for their teams.
* They will drive service improvement, innovation and staff skill and knowledge acquisition for the benefit of patients within the pathway.
* They will seek opportunities to continuously develop the service in this clinical area to always ensure the delivery of patient-centred care.

Person Specification
* Varied clinical experience at both band 6 and band 7 level with experience in managing Medicine/Care of the Elderly/Stroke/Neuro patients in a variety of clinical settings
* Significant clinical knowledge and clinical experience, at a senior level within a Medicine/ Care of the Elderly/ Stroke/Neuro pathway, in a secondary care setting
* Up-to-date knowledge base to ensure the delivery of evidence-based practice along with innovative therapy provision within Medicine/Care of the elderly pathways
* Knowledge of leadership styles and experience in leading teams
* Experience in the day-to-day management of staff including addressing issues such as absence and performance
* Experience of recruiting, interviewing & appointing staff
* Experience in the induction, monitoring & the supervision of staff
* Experience as a student placement educator
* Experience in using audit as part of service development
* A commitment and drive for professional development of self and that of the team
* A leadership style that can be quickly adapted into a variety of different situations and matches the needs of the individual or team
* A credible & mature attitude that is recognised & respected by other staff
* Highly skilled in managing Medicine/Care of the elderly/Stroke/Neuro patients, including those with complex presentations, to ensure optimum management and rehabilitation strategies and plans are put in place
* Able to prioritise a workload across a defined clinical area and for multiple staff
* Able to demonstrate effective team-working skills to achieve better patient outcomes
* Able to demonstrate clinical & professional leadership skills e.g. in the development & implementation of practice standards and service development initiatives
* Able to identify own strengths & weaknesses in clinical practice and implement strategies to address
* Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people across professions and organisations
* Competent in the use of electronic data systems including the production of reports and in the presenting of clinical data
* Able to recognise & adapt own leadership and supervisory styles to meet the needs of others
* Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Post registration qualification in either a clinical or research topic (or working towards), or equivalent relevant experience
* Significant Post graduate training in the field of Medicine/Care of the elderly/Stroke/Neurology
* Member of relevant specialist clinical interest group
* Able to undertake advanced cognitive assessments and treatments
