Main duties of the job
What Your Typical Day Looks Like:
* Delivering high-quality, patient-centred care in a Primary Care setting
* Managing a mix of pre-booked and on-the-day appointments, supported by a strong admin and clinical team
* Collaborating with pharmacists, paramedics, and mental health specialists
* Actively participating in clinical meetings and service development
* Leveraging digital systems to reduce admin and maximise time with patients
* Pursuing clinical interests (e.g., minor surgery, women’s health, health inequalities)
* Contributing to quality improvement, governance, and safeguarding initiatives

Job description
PURPOSE OF ROLE
* Providing high-quality, patient-centred primary care to a diverse population in Derby
* Managing a mixture of pre-booked and on-the-day appointments, with clinical and admin support
* Participating in clinical meetings and service development
* Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, including pharmacists, paramedics, and mental health specialists
* Using digital systems to minimise admin time and maximise patient care
* Pursuing special interests (e.g., minor surgery, women’s health, clinical governance, health inequalities) to improve services
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
In general, the post holder will undertake duties and responsibilities associated with a GP in Primary / Urgent Care, such as:
* Keep contemporaneous, accurate records of all patient contacts and contribute to electronic data recording and audit
* Prescribe and issue prescriptions and treatments according to protocols and local guidance within scope of competence
* Contribute to evaluation / audit, significant event reporting and clinical standard setting
* Develop positive working relationships with local GP Practices and other services
* Pursue continuing professional development; eight days study leave per year pro rata for CPD following appraisal discussions
* Participate in governance, clinical support, and strategic planning as appropriate
* Maintain GMC registration and license to practice; ensure inclusion on local Performers List
GOVERNANCE ARRANGEMENTS
* Participate in major incident medical response as required
* Ensure effective use of resources and integrated governance
* Contribute to quality improvements and adhere to policies, protocols, and guidelines
* Assess outcomes and report shortfalls to managers
* Comply with health and safety requirements and COSHH
* Participate in research and development activities and CQC readiness
PROFESSIONAL
* Maintain GMC registration and licence; full accreditation requirements as applicable
* A commitment to lifelong learning and audit with attendance at training and events
* Maintain hygiene standards per Infection Prevention and Control guidelines
* Work within the relevant professional Code of Conduct
* Be adaptable to evolving organisational needs
* Any other reasonable duties as required
Qualifications
Essential
* MRCGP or equivalent
* Must be currently registered on a performers list
* Valid GMC registration
* License to Practice in the UK
* Recent evidence of continued academic and professional development
Experience
* Essential: Experience in Primary Care
Desirable
* Experience or interest in a specialist area (e.g., dermatology, palliative care)
* Experience with SystemOne / EMIS
