Assistant Highways / Drainage Engineer (Development) role at WSP in the UK & Ireland. Join the team to contribute to development projects across sectors, delivering planning support, design, and construction delivery.
What you will do
* Contribute to concept studies/strategies/drawing packages, leading to planning applications, technical approval submissions and construction issue.
* Contribute to all types of Development projects across all sectors and clients.
* Be active on several varied projects at any given time.
* Be supported by the Cambridge team to develop your technical capabilities and support your career progression.
* Involve in client engagement, stakeholder management, design team liaison (internal and external).
* Be responsible for ensuring tasks are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
The Development Team is a well-established and high performing discipline within the Planning and Development business unit.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate (Qualifications)
* Knowledge of highway design, drainage strategy and design, flood risk assessment and management, utility design and planning, and knowledge of the Development Industry.
* An appreciation of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics and building structures; understanding of construction design stages and procedures.
* Ability to produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations and construction drawings with supervision.
* Knowledge of design codes such as Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, Local Authority Design Guidance; experience in drawing preparation for contract documentation and technical approvals.
* Written and spoken communication skills and awareness of current technical and planning guidance on climate change and sustainability.
* Ability to use software including Info Drainage, Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or PDS.
* Experience liaising with clients, co-professionals and design teams; competence in liaising with highway, water, statutory and local authorities to negotiate outline and detailed technical approvals and statutory agreements.
* Awareness of legal processes, planning, design software, technical consents, adoption and contract procedures for sewers, SuDS, highways and utilities to new developments and regeneration projects.
* Knowledge of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering projects of varying size.
* Postgraduate (or equivalent) experience and working towards Chartership or equivalent experience.
