Archaeological Services WYAS are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced project manager able to simultaneously manage multiple projects (including excavations, geophysical surveys, topographic surveys, and post-excavation analysis and reporting). You will have experience of managing budgets, running complex projects and dealing with several field teams. Significant experience of running complex excavations, in both rural and urban settings, is required.
The successful candidate will be an experienced project manager who will engage directly with their fieldwork and post-excavation teams as well as clients, consultants and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed to a high standard as well as financial and budgetary targets. You will be expected to take your own projects from successful tender through to final report (including publication). You will have excellent report writing skills, be able to work to deadlines, and communicate effectively with staff, clients, curators and specialists.
Applicants for this post will have a degree in archaeology or a related discipline, significant experience of commercial archaeology in Britain, and wide-ranging managerial skills. You will need to demonstrate evidence of successful tendering, positive client relationships, meeting deadlines for multiple projects, giving presentations, strategic thinking, and excellent verbal skills.
The position is based in Morley, West Yorkshire and would be ideal for candidates looking to commute from Leeds, York, Bradford or Sheffield, although hybrid working arrangements are available. Our fieldwork is typically based in Yorkshire and neighbouring counties on both rural and urban sites, although away work is also undertaken and travel for client and site meetings is common.
Our standard week is 37 hours. The post is advertised as full time. Our generous holiday allowance is 39 days including statutory holidays.
A full UK driving license is desirable due to site meetings at remote locations. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Archaeologists is a requirement of this post.
All appropriate training and high-quality PPE is provided.
