Job overview

At Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) we are investing in our Acute Medical workforce and are therefore looking to recruit a Consultant into our team. Now is a great time to join us as we embark on making our vision for the future a reality. We have a newly refurbished Acute Receiving Unit (ARU) and have implemented a model of care with our frailty colleagues.

Main duties of the job

You will have a unique opportunity to lead and shape the future of the service. You will be joining an enthusiastic, collaborative multi-disciplinary team that is committed to driving forward the Trust vision for Acute Medicine, delivering an exemplary service.

Our service is comprised of an Acute Receiving Unit (ARU) with 18 spaces, a 21-bedded ward and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit. Acute Medicine is a within the Integrated Medicine Care Group, working closely with colleagues in Emergency and Specialty medicine.

Person specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria

10. •MB, BS or equivalent GMC registered qualifications
11. •CCST/ CCT in Acute or General Internal Medicine, OR Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Acute or General Internal Medicine OR within six months of achieving CCST\CCT at the time of interview
12. •CCST\CCT in desired additional specialty
13. •High Quality skills in general and acute medicine and ability to manage medical takes

Experience

Essential criteria

14. •General training in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine to specialist level or equivalent
15. •Research experience\publications
16. •3 years WTE minimum at SpR level in GIM\Acute Medicine higher speciality training
17. •Ability to make decisions at consultant level

Skills

Essential criteria

18. •Sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant.
19. •Demonstrates ability to adapt leadership style, drives up standards, delegates appropriately and engages other clinical colleagues
20. •Demonstrates understanding and acceptance of organisational priorities and interacts positively with managers, demonstrating financial awareness.
21. •Demonstrates inclusivity, takes ownership and manages boundaries appropriately.
22. •Management training and experience
23. •Proactive about change, seeks out and is open to feedback, reflects on own behaviour
24. •Ability to work flexibly and adapt to increasing needs of service
25. •Ability to complete tasks
26. •Good spoken and written English.
27. •Communication skills should be highly developed. Influences and negotiates effectively, keeps patients and colleagues informed
28. •Communication skills training
29. •Experience of teaching doctors-in-training and undergraduates, demonstrates the ability to give honest and constructive feedback, creates a supportive learning environment
30. •Experience of clinical audit/research
31. •Proven ability to produce audit/research for presentation at national level
32. •Full GMC Registration
33. •Full Driving Licence and regular access to a car
