Job Summary
Provide high‑volume, low‑intensity interventions for clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression in the prison setting. Deliver a range of CBT‑based self‑management interventions, including guided self‑help in both 1:1 and group formats, in line with Step 2 IAPT guidelines.
Responsibilities
* Accept referrals via agreed protocols and assess suitability, stepping up or forwarding unsuitable clients appropriately.
* Conduct person‑centred interviews, identify change goals, and assess risk to self and others.
* Provide low‑intensity interventions such as psycho‑educational sessions and Guided Self‑Help, drawing on CBT theories and techniques.
* Support and implement evidence‑based interventions through a self‑management model of mental health care.
* Attend multi‑disciplinary meetings regarding referrals or clients in treatment.
* Collaborate with team members to ensure appropriate step‑up and step‑down arrangements for a stepped‑care approach.
* Safeguard client confidentiality at all times.
* Record and evaluate outcome measures and accurately enter clinical data into agreed systems.
* Maintain high standards of clinical record keeping and participate in monthly performance data collation.
* Communicate effectively with patients, stakeholders, colleagues, and relevant professionals, both verbally and in writing.
* Utilise supervision and personal development opportunities to maintain and improve clinical practice.
* Uphold the values of Rethink Mental Illness and represent the company’s best interests in all interactions.
* Provide contingency cover to other prisons as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Completed a recognised academic programme in line with the IAPT Low‑Intensity National Programme.
* Qualified as a Psychological Well‑Being Practitioner (PWP) – accredited by BPS or BACP.
* Post‑qualification experience delivering the full range of IAPT low‑intensity interventions at Step 2.
* Demonstrated success in a stepped‑care service, achieving positive recovery outcomes.
* Knowledge of assessment procedures, screening, referral, record‑keeping, and evidence‑based brief psychological interventions.
* Ability to develop therapeutic relationships and practice inclusively, respecting diversity and cultural practices.
* Experience using clinical outcome measures to inform practice.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Working knowledge of standard IT packages (Word, Excel, and relevant databases).
* Self‑reflective, proactive learner with experience of clinical supervision.
* Eligible for enhanced DBS disclosure and Home Office prison clearance.
* Knowledge of data protection and health & safety regulations.
