Summary
Job holder is responsible for leading advice on equality issues within the establishment, ensuring compliance with legislation. This is a non-rotational, non-operational advisory role with line management responsibilities.
Responsibilities
* Ensure Equality Impact Assessments are completed appropriately.
* Ensure a programme of Equality Impact Assessments is in place and actioned.
* Disseminate equality monitoring data and any actions to eliminate unlawful discrimination.
* Develop and manage the establishment annual Equality Plan outlining opportunities and issues.
* Ensure the establishment meets legal obligations under equality legislation.
* Create an Equality Action Plan, highlight and resolve areas of non‑compliance.
* Contribute to the Equality Committee, encouraging employee engagement and leading its activities, presenting reports.
* Carry out equality‑related audits and report findings to the Senior Management Team (SMT).
* Develop links with local groups to enhance understanding of equality strands.
* Work closely with Safer Custody on the decency agenda and bullying/harassment related to equality.
* Work closely with the litigation lead on equality‑related litigation.
* Ensure all staff, agency workers and volunteers receive equality training; ensure all prisoners receive an equality induction and training in line with sentence plans.
* Manage the Diversity Incident Reporting Form (DIRF) process.
* Act as subject‑matter lead advisor, providing advice and recommendations to the SMT, managers and individuals.
* Manage staff within the area: performance, development, appraisal, sickness‑absence management.
* Ensure establishment compliance with changes in law and legislation.
* Develop and maintain local policies and procedures in line with national standards, guidance and best practice.
* Suggest ways to improve and achieve Service Delivery Indicators (SDI).
* Ensure relevant administration, data collection and analysis including SDIs are collated.
* Deliver and organise awareness sessions in the relevant area.
* Chair monthly meetings in the relevant work area.
* Liaise with external bodies where required.

Essential Experience
* Ability to deal effectively and assertively with staff at all levels.
* Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
* Information collation and analysis.
Technical Requirements
* Must complete specific training to hold the qualifications required for the area of specialisation outlined on the Job Description.
Language Requirement
* Ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence through the medium of English.
Hours of Work
37 hour working week.
Benefits
* Entitled to 9 days (66 hours 36 minutes) of bank, public and privilege holidays. These hours are added to the annual leave allowance; some public and bank holidays may be required to work depending on shift pattern and operational needs.
