We are seeking a Youth Pathways Mentor to join our team in East Belfast, working with young people aged 14–18 who are disengaged from education and at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
Location: East Belfast
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, including some evenings as required
Salary: £33,000 per annum
The Youth Pathways Mentor will engage and support young people aged 14–18 in East Belfast who are disengaged from education and at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). The post holder will provide tailored mentoring to address barriers such as trauma, poor mental health, and lack of family support, working collaboratively with schools, Education Welfare Officers, and community networks. The goal is to guide young people toward realistic education, training, or employment pathways and improve their overall wellbeing and aspirations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build trusting, professional relationships with young people facing complex barriers to education and employment.
- Deliver one-to-one mentoring and group support sessions focused on personal development, confidence-building, and goal setting.Provide trauma-informed support to young people experiencing mental health challenges, family breakdown, or social exclusion.
Pathway Planning & Guidance
- Assess individual needs and develop personalised action plans to re-engage young people in education, training, or employment opportunities.
- Support participants in exploring and accessing vocational training, apprenticeships, and work experience.
- Liaise with schools, Education Welfare Officers, careers services, and local employers to coordinate opportunities.
-Work closely with community partners, statutory agencies, and voluntary organisations to provide holistic support.
-Attend multi-agency meetings where required and advocate for young people’s needs.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of engagement, progress, and outcomes in line with funder requirements.
- Contribute to project evaluation and reporting, demonstrating impact and continuous improvement.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Adhere to organisational safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection policies.
- Undertake training relevant to child protection and trauma-informed practice.
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience in youth work, education, mentoring, or a related field.
· Proven ability to engage and support young people facing barriers such as disengagement, trauma, or poor mental health.
· Strong knowledge of local education, training, and employability pathways.
· Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
· Experience of working collaboratively with schools, statutory agencies, and community organisations.
· Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
· Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
· Recognised qualification in Youth Work, Education, or a related field (e.g., Level 3 Youth Work, OCN, or equivalent).
· Experience delivering trauma-informed or mental health support interventions.
· Knowledge of the NEET agenda and local labour market/employer engagement.
· Familiarity with monitoring and reporting for funded projects.
· First Aid and/or Mental Health First Aid training.
· Empathy and a non-judgemental approach.
· Ability to motivate and inspire young people.
· Strong organisational and administrative skills.
· Solution-focused, resilient, and adaptable to change.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
