What Is the Opportunity?
We've got big growth ambitions and we're looking for a Senior Development Underwriter to join our Birmingham branch to help us grow!
Using your previous property & casualty experience, you'll be one of the Senior Underwriters responsible for producing and writing new business, as well as some renewals. You'll support the Branch in achieving financial goals through superior service, business retention, and responsiveness to new business submissions. You'll work closely with the Branch Manager and collaborate with the team, Regional Underwriting Offices, Market Segment Colleagues, and other internal/external partners. Additionally, you'll provide leadership and coaching to less experienced team members to foster a successful team ethos.
Travelers Europe offers flexible working arrangements, including a hybrid model of three days in the office and two days at home, subject to policy changes.
This role is eligible for a £2,500 new joiner bonus. If referred by an employee, both you and the referrer may be eligible for this bonus.
What Will You Do?
* Underwrite and assess risks to maximize business growth and profitability within your broker panel, making decisions within your authority and providing recommendations to leadership.
* Underwrite complex accounts, considering various approaches to risks to maximize profitability, including pricing, retention, endorsements, and limits.
* Make prompt, sound decisions based on underwriting information and negotiate terms and conditions accordingly.
* Align with Travelers' underwriting strategies to meet budgeted results.
* Manage your book of business, maintaining quality, growth, and profit.
* Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with Travelers' standards.
* If a Subject Matter Expert, provide expertise, coaching, and leadership in your area.
* Engage in training to develop underwriting skills further.
* Develop broker and client relationships through visibility and disciplined sales management.
* Assist in developing and executing sales plans, increasing marketing and sales outside the office.
* Collaborate with colleagues across regions and units to foster business development.
* Participate in regional and product meetings.
* Provide excellent customer service to meet Travelers' standards.
* Lead and coach team members to achieve underwriting and sales goals.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
* Preferred degree education.
* Proven experience in underwriting, with a focus on new business development.
* Knowledge of the local insurance market and organizational policies.
* Technical underwriting knowledge.
* Strong analytical, judgment, decision-making, communication, and teamwork skills.
* Experience in broker planning and engagement.
* Customer focus and positive broker interaction skills.
* Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
* Advanced relationship management skills.

* Experience in Property and Casualty underwriting.
* Valid driving license.
