Specialist Midwife Addictive Behaviour and Vulnerability

To provide leadership and support to the maternity services by being the link midwife for the Addictive Behaviour Services and Associated Practices within maternity services.


Main duties of the job

To provide leadership and support to the maternity services with regard to vulnerable women, including asylum seekers.

To provide midwifery care and support to a defined caseload of women and their families within the community setting and supporting the pathway between hospital and community.

Show expertise and leadership in Antenatal/Intrapartum and postnatal care, continuing to develop and manage practice and actively participate in achieving the Maternity Services and Trust's objectives.

To participate in the development of a service that improves multi-agency networking and the collection of information with relation to addictive behaviour and vulnerability.

Provide midwifery expertise, advice, skills, leadership and support at a senior level to all midwives within the Maternity Services.

Lead and support all staff providing support and expertise in Addictive behaviours and vulnerable patients.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust now form University Hospitals Tees and as such you may be required to work at any site across both Trusts.

We support the Making Every Contact Count approach to behaviour change in the promotion of health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.


Job responsibilities

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed senior midwife with strong leadership skills to join our team. The role involves providing specialised knowledge, clinical expertise and leadership in relation to addictive behaviour and vulnerability for pregnant women and their families.


Person Specification

* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Demonstrate clinical credibility
* Team player but also able to work autonomously and prioritise own workload.
* Flexible to the needs of the service.
* Able to deal with sensitivity to difficult conversations and situations.
* Registered Practising Midwife NMC registered
* Degree in midwifery or related subject
* Child protection policies and procedures experience
* Leadership and management experience/ qualification.
* Experience dealing with patient concerns or complaints
