Deputy Director of Nursing

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Deputy Director of Nursing & Quality to join us on an interim basis for 9 months while we recruit substantively to this key leadership role.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with the energy and expertise to hit the ground running, working closely with our Chief Nursing Officer to ensure the delivery of high-quality care for our patients and robust clinical governance across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

As Deputy Director of Nursing, you will:

* Provide professional leadership and strategic input across the Trust.
* Support the Chief Nurse in driving improvements in patient care and experience.
* Lead on quality improvement initiatives and embed best practice.
* Ensure over sight of robust clinical governance and assurance for patient care

Springfield University Hospital, Tooting

Our largest, 19-ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our £150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities. A 32-acre public park, shops and cafes are coming soon. Close to shops, cafes and Tooting Bec on the Northern Line plus Earlsfield and Tooting rail stations and bus routes.


Job responsibilities

* The post holder will deputise for the Chief Nurse as required and will lead on identified trust-wide projects as agreed with the Chief Nurse.
* Provide the professional leadership and development of registered nurses and nursing posts across the organisation.
* Will provide the clinical oversight, advice, leadership and to set the standards of patient care Across the Trust.
* To lead on projects through a Quality Improvement approach and ensure that the clinical services are improving quality of care and patient experience on a continuous basis, and reporting improvements through to board.
* Will support the Trust in working towards a Total Quality System management.
* The DDoN will set a strategy for service transformation and improved standards of care across all services with the Chief Nurse.
* Work in close partnership and in the senior nurse leadership role with the other Heads of Nursing to ensure that all patient environments are fit for purpose in terms of meeting statutory requirements in relation to cleanliness, safety and staffing.
* The DDoNs Trust wide portfolio will support with achieving consistent, effective governance arrangements throughout A&UC, aligning with the Governance department, ensuring regulatory compliance, Health & Safety team and ensuring compliance across the other Service lines.
* They will ensure that systems are in place for the recruitment and induction of nurses entering the service and take a leading role in the education, training and professional development of the nursing workforce.
* They will work closely with the other Heads of Nursing to review, refresh and implement the Nursing Framework to strengthen, standardise and make more consistent the nursing contribution to service users recovery through inter-professional working.
* Will ensure that anti racism and Health inequalities is embedded in all aspects of leadership and clinical care.


Person Specification


Experience

* Recent significant experience at a senior level in the NHS with proven track record of using professional knowledge to bring about change
* Good knowledge, understanding and experience of leading change through Quality Improvement Innovation.
* Proven track record and significant experience of working with users and careers
* Significant experience of facilitating and managing change within and across healthcare boundaries
* Experience of working across professional boundaries, able to enthuse and inspire others using advanced communication and presentation skills
* Experience in a variety of healthcare settings including Forensic
* Significant experience of setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care
* Significant experience of providing compassionate care for complex populations and those vulnerable to exclusion
* Experience of, or awareness of specific factors relating to working in a culturally diverse inner city area
* Demonstrable Knowledge and experience of quality governance
* Experienced in teaching and developing, as well as training, Nursing staff
* Experience working across and interfacing with external health care systems, SLP/ICS
* Experience with working with sub-committees of the Board and Executive Directors.


Qualifications

* Registered Mental Health Nurse
* Completion of recognised leadership programme or willing to undertake one
* Evidence of recent and ongoing Continuous Professional DevelopmentSpecialist training and/or doctorate in Health related subject or equivalent
* In depth expert understanding of organisational development
* Project management
* Teaching qualification
* Masters degree in Health related subject
