Healthcare Support Worker - Dunlop Ward

As a full time Healthcare Support Worker on our 24 bedded Dunlop Ward which specialises in the care of long-term cardiac conditions and Acute Medicine, you will provide high standards of care to our patients while working both independently and as part of a team, prioritising your workload to ensure quality care and demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach.
The ideal candidate will have some care experience and will be able to work night shifts. We offer a period of supernumerary time to support you into your role, and further learning and development are encouraged.
Main duties of the job
* Provide caring and compassionate, individualized nursing care as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Monitor and record vital signs, escort patients for investigations, assist with personal care and nutritional support.
* Work day, night and weekend shifts and flexibly adapt to changing priorities.
* Support the care, protection and well-being of individuals, maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.
* Assist with administrative duties such as answering telephone, taking messages and participating in ward meetings.
* Assist in risk assessments and report any concerns to the nurse in charge.
* Communicate effectively with staff, patients, relatives and carers.
* Recognise and respond to situations within the work area, and seek advice from senior staff as required.

* Observe, monitor and record patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturations and weight.
* Provide personalized care such as infection prevention and control, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety.
* Administrative duties – answer the telephone, take messages, refer to staff nurse for instructions, participate in ward/unit meetings and encourage effective communication between staff.

Person Specification
Qualifications and training
* NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification/experience
* Care certificate
* English & Maths at GCSE grade A‑C or level 2 functional skills
Knowledge and experience
* Previous experience in a care environment or able to demonstrate a caring nature/life experience
* Understands the need for strict confidentiality
* Working knowledge of complex care needs of some individuals/families including safeguarding children & adults, domestic abuse and mental health
Specific skills
* Basic computer/keyboard skills
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Able to prioritise and organise work
* Record keeping competency in handwritten and electronic records
