Job description Job Title: Multi-Role Transport Operative Reports To: Operations Manager Department: Transport / Operations Location: Rainham, London RM13 Employment Type: Full-Time Working days and hours: 08:00-17:00 Monday to Saturday with one 1 day off during the week and Sunday off. Some flexibility required. Salary: 28k-32k depending on experience Role Summary: The Multi-Role Transport Operative supports the smooth and efficient functioning of the transport department by performing a combination of tasks including route planning, occasional driving, and general transport & operations administration. This dynamic position is ideal for someone flexible, organised, and hands-on, with a solid understanding of transport operations. Key Responsibilities: 1. Route Planning & Scheduling - Plan daily and weekly vehicle routes for HGV and van drivers - Adjust schedules based on delivery priorities, traffic, or driver availability - Collaborate with drivers and the Operations Manager to optimize efficiency - Use mapping tools or route planning software 2. Driving Duties (as required) - Operate HGV 2 or company vans for deliveries, collections, or cover duties - Complete pre-trip vehicle checks and log defects appropriately - Maintain professional conduct and ensure timely deliveries - Comply with drivers hours regulations, tachograph use, and load safety 3. Transport & Operations Administration - Maintain driver records (CPC, licence checks, medicals, infringements) - Help schedule vehicle maintenance and log defect reports - Process fuel receipts, mileage logs, and daily run sheets - Assist with DVSA compliance record-keeping and audit preparation - BRCGS Storage & Distribution audit preparation - Fuel cards, tablet, BigChange administration Key Skills & Experience: - Previous experience in a transport, logistics, or driving role - Working knowledge of transport regulations (tachograph, WTD, vehicle checks) - Competent with basic IT tools (Excel, route planners, fleet software) - HGV licence (Class 2) preferred or van driving experience - Basic understanding of BRCGS Storage & Distribution - Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills Personal Attributes: - Flexible and willing to switch between tasks as needed - Reliable, proactive, and customer-focused - Able to work independently and as part of a small team - Committed to safety and compliance Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Temp to perm Pay: £28,000.00-£32,000.00 per year Benefits: Company pension On-site parking Work Location: In person
