Description
Alternative Heat specialises in the design, supply, and installation of a wide range of underfloor heating and off-site prefabricated solutions for the commercial M&E sectors throughout Ireland and the UK. Through continuous investment in our teams and facilities, we have grown strongly over the years and established ourselves as a leader in the underfloor heating and off-site pre-fabrication industry across Ireland and the UK.
Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit a Structural Engineering Apprentice to support our expanding Structural Engineering Teams at our new headquarters in Banbridge. This placement offers an excellent opportunity for a candidate eager to gain experience with a progressive and dynamic company.
Job Details
Title: Structural Engineering Apprentice
Location: Head Quarters – Banbridge, Co Down
Start Date: August/September 2025
Hours: 38 hours/week (8am – 5pm Mon-Thu, 8am – 3pm Fri)
Reporting To: Senior Structural Engineer
Responsibilities
* Conduct load assessments for proposed prefabricated solutions to support detailed analysis and generate line and point load reports.
* Prepare detailed design drawings to facilitate information exchange between design teams.
* Develop structural reports using design software such as Masterseries, Unistrut Designer, FiXperience, and AutoCAD.
* Assist in designing prefabricated steel portal frame structures using Masterseries software.
* Review BIM drawings for accuracy according to structural design intent.
* Participate in project design meetings and prepare reports on findings.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential:
* Training in a Structural Engineering-related apprenticeship with aspirations to become a Structural Design Engineer.
* Effective communication skills to liaise with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and manufacturers.
* Pragmatic with strong attention to detail.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Excel, and Outlook.
Desirable:
* Experience with structural design software like AutoCAD and Masterseries.
* Knowledge of Eurocode and British Standards.
