Overview
We are excited to offer a permanent Mobile Electrician position in the West Midlands. The role will involve travel across the region, visiting HMP Hewell and HMP Long Lartin. You will have access to a company van and fuel allowance, giving you everything you need to travel between sites without hassle.
The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, 08:00 – 17:00 with an earlier finish every Friday. There is a need to work one weekend out of three, on a rota basis, with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary, and part of an on‑call rota.
What You Will Do
* Manage and authorise high and low‑risk electrical maintenance activities across the FM estate, acting as Authorised Person / Responsible Person (AP/ RP) in line with Amey Safety Rules. (Training will be provided.)
* Deliver both planned and reactive ‘like for like’ electrical maintenance within prison environments, ensuring systems are safe, compliant and fully operational.
* Carry out electrical inspection tests and install electrical equipment and wiring across multiple prison sites.
* Diagnose faults, replace components and resolve issues across a wide range of electrical systems.
* Oversee and supervise Level 2 electrical work, ensuring quality and compliance.
* Consistently uphold Health & Safety standards, complete risk assessments and follow safe systems of work.
* Maintain the security of plant, tools and materials, and ensure the safe use of vehicles when required.
* Support with escorting duties and assist with other tasks as needed.
What You Will Bring
* Appropriate technical qualification (e.g. City & Guilds 2365 parts 1‑3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above)
* City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing
* BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition*
* Ideally 3+ years as an electrician, with at least 2 years in test and inspection roles. Commercial/industrial experience preferred.
* Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
* Capable of working at heights.
* Ability to work alone and use initiative.
* Good all‑round project management knowledge.
* Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), with proficiency in IT.
* Experience in managing stakeholder relationships at all levels. IT skills.
* Full UK driving licence.
